In the latest Local SEO Tactics podcast episode, we introduce a new tool that helps businesses measure their keyword rankings across specific local areas with real data and precision. This tool is now available in beta, and we’re inviting a limited number of users to try it out during a 90-day test period.

This tool was created with small and local businesses in mind. It gives business owners and marketers an easy way to see where they rank in different nearby cities and towns, how they compare to competitors, and whether their SEO efforts are actually moving the needle.

What This Tool Does

With this new tool, you can:

  • Enter your business domain and choose target towns or cities
  • Track keyword rankings within each of those areas
  • Compare your visibility to competitors
  • Monitor ranking progress over time through historical data snapshots

It is built for anyone actively working on SEO, whether that work is being done in-house or by a digital marketing agency. Instead of guessing if your rankings are improving, this gives you the ability to measure results in specific locations.

Real-World Example

In the episode, we walk through a demo using a real business: MN Phone Repair. They focus on Northfield, Minnesota, and the surrounding small towns like Dundas, Waterford, and Cannon Falls.

We entered a few key search terms like “phone repair” and “iPhone repair near me” to see where the business ranks in each area. The results showed that while MN Phone Repair performed well in some towns, there were clear opportunities in others. This kind of data helps businesses know where to focus their SEO improvements and where they are already strong.

Competitor Tracking

The tool also allows you to enter a competitor’s website and compare rankings side by side. This is a quick way to identify who is doing well and which keywords or towns may be worth targeting.

During the episode, we entered a local competitor to see how they ranked for the same terms. This provided useful insights, especially in understanding how both businesses performed across different locations and which keywords might need more work.

Historical Snapshots

One of the more helpful features is the ability to take snapshots over time. For example, you can run a report today, make changes to your SEO, and then run the report again in 30 or 60 days to see what changed. It gives you a clear visual of progress or setbacks.

We showed this feature using data from past clients. You can actually see when rankings improved, when they dropped, and what areas might need more attention.

Not Just for Local SEO

While the tool is tailored for local SEO, it can also be used on a broader scale. We demonstrated how a national business, Rock the Treatment, uses it to track rankings in multiple cities across the United States. The same ranking visibility applies, just across a larger footprint.

Join the Beta Test

We are currently accepting 10 to 20 beta users who will have full access to the tool for approximately 90 days. During this time, we are asking for user feedback to help us finalize the tool before releasing it more broadly.

If you want to see how it works, watch the full walkthrough on the Local SEO Tactics YouTube channel. The demo gives you a complete look at the interface and reporting features.

Why It Matters

This tool gives business owners and marketers more than just data. It provides a way to:

  • Identify where your SEO is working and where it isn’t
  • Understand how you compare to nearby competitors
  • Take measurable steps to improve your local visibility
  • Track results over time, not just guess at performance
